One of the reasons I love doing what I do is having the outlet to be creative and make something unique. A year ago a friend asked me to make a birthday cake for her son who was turning 5 and having a big halloween birthday bash. I also made an entire dessert bar for this party and was quite overwhelmed with the huge order. The last thing I worked on was his cake. Luckily, she gave me the freedom to do whatever I wanted. It was midnight, I put in my ipod and I just went to work with no distractions. These are my favorite times, comparable to an artist painting in their studio alone listening to Mozart. Except I am surrounded by chaos and listening to R&B hits from the 90′s. I almost feel as if another part of me comes out and I am no longer a mom and I can no longer see the laundry piled up on the couch or the dishes in the sink. I just get in a groove and in the end I have something that is a distinct representative of my artistic abilities. This cake was simple, but every part of it came from me. I do many cake orders, some are done precisely to how a client ordered them, others I am given some freedom to do what I want. My favorite is when I design a cake for me. I think it is then I make my best work. Since Halloween is a few days away I wanted to share this cake with you again.
